I am adjusting to life without my locs. It's been a week since I cut them and predictably, it's not being without dreads that's weird to me. It's going from having hair past my shoulders to having hair that is short. Like, short short. I've only had short hair once in my life, about six or seven years ago. I also cried in the bathroom of the beauty shop after getting that hair cut. My exact words were "My hair, my hair, oh, my pretty hair! It's all gone, it's all gone!" In the past year, there has been a glut of "Stuff" blogs on the internets. This is, of course, in the wake of the monster success of Stuff White People Like, a blog which pokes fun at the tastes of a certain segment of the White population. By the time it was announced that SWPL's writers had inked a book deal, there was more "Stuff" blogs than one could count. Some of them are great. Well, at least one of them is; Stuff Black People Hate is the only one I read loyally. Most of them suck to the point of me not even wanting to mention them. But one gave me pause and made me think once again how good it must be to be the majority group in this country.  read more »

Sadly, my vacay is damn near over. I'm leaving DC, which we shall now refer to as "Chocolate Chip City", at 6AM to fly home to the Chi. I enjoyed my time here overall, but it's been a bit bittersweet. Chocolate Chip City is almost as much home as Chicago, as I lived here for five years until I moved to BK last July. I enjoyed seeing my friends and Sister Salud and I definitely had a great time getting that old thing back, as they say.  read more »
