If I had my way, this weekend would be spent in the great borough of Brooklyn and would consist of little more than sleeping, baking, listening to that new Kid Cudi and taking some long walks. However, I don't think any of those things are on the table for me. I'm grinding like the Clipse these days, except for I am adult height. You know, 'cause the Clipse are both like 4'7.

Anyway, it's still Friday-ish around these parts and y'all are long overdue for Five For Friday. Given the climate of the world these days, I'm inclined to provoke a little thought this go around instead of the usual fun and foolery. In the spirit of This May Concern You's "Five Randoms", I'd like you guys to engage a bit here.

Fellow blogger The Prisoner's Wife left a link to this trailer in the comments the other day and I think it's dope:

I'm reaching out to Nijla Mumin, the documentarian, to get more info about the film and how we can see it. I see that at least parts of it were shot in Ledroit Park, by Howard University! I commend her for doing what looks to be like a great film that exposes the daily pain of far too many women.
2) RESPOND:
Ladies, who amongst you has a story to tell? What was one of your most memorable experiences with street corner harassment?

3)AIR EM OUT:

I was searching Jezebel for a post Hortense recently did about street harassment and found a link to Holla Back New York- a site that allows people to upload photos and video of street harassers. Interestingly enough, for those who charged that this was a uniquely or primarily the work of Black men of low income/low education, most of the men that I saw on this site were White and seemed to be of varying social class. As I said before, this is a gender issue across color and class lines and we ALL need to address it. I'm gonna try to get some pics on here, not jeopardizing my safety of course and I encourage others to do the same. Hopefully, someones employer, mother, wife or child will see their picture on this site and the perp will endure the shame they deserve.
4) ANSWER THIS:
What are the action steps that we can take that destroys the culture that creates men who treat women this way? Obviously, we have to do a better job in raising our boys to truly respect and appreciate women, but what can we do for the adult males who are already at domestic terrorist status?

5)AND THEN THIS:
With specific regard to Black men and women and our ongoing death match, how in the world are we gonna fix this? While a lot of you will get on the high and mighty "I PERSONALLY respect and nurture the Black queen" soapbox, reality reveals a very different perspective for a lot of those in our ranks...and for some of those who claim to be more advanced, if we may be completely honest. How do YOU suggest we fix this mess?
